20 Random Thoughts

Posted by Peaches - August 5th, 2006

1. I hate long lines. At the grocery store, at the Kohl’s, at the school orientation, at the movie theater concessions counter. I hate lines.

2. Because I don’t like to wait. I am impatient. Always. Waiting in my book is never a good thing.

3. Because in lines…people have absolutely no regard for PERSONAL SPACE.

4. Why would normally polite people think it’s OK to stand behind you with their chest pressed up against your back and their thigh up your butt?

5. Again on personal space – I hate when I’m in the middle seat on an airplane and the people to the left and right of me hog all the armrests and because I am short I spend the better part of the flight dodging both elbows to keep them from making contact with my chest.

6. Can’t they see that I’m hunched forward with pillows on both sides to avoid their damn elbows?

7. No they can’t because it’s all about them and common courtesy never, ever factors into the equation with people like that. You know, the ones which have no regard for anybody else but themselves, no matter where they are?

8. When I am on the window or aisle seat, I ALWAYS leave an armrest for the person in the middle. Because it’s the right thing to do, people!

9. When it’s over a hundred degrees out, I have to take two or three showers a day, none of them hot.

10. I hate sitting around sweating all day. It’s yucky.

11. When it’s this hot even the swimming pool is over 99 degrees and so it is not refreshing and not worth the trouble.

12. During the month of August, most people in our neighborhood stay inside and we rarely see each other. It’s like if you live in the freezing north and it’s February and below zero with the wind chill and there is ice on the ground…people hunker down in this or that type of weather.

13. The Boy starts school on August 14th. He has less then nine days of freedom left.

14. Why can’t we start school after Labor Day like most normal states?

15. Oh, I forgot. The teachers won the fight to include their in service days during the school year and so it stretches the calendar and makes the summer shorter for all. Nice of them, wasn’t it?

16. It is tax free weekend here, and we have many people in from out of state to take advantage of this.

17. People from out of state drive even worse than the Dallas moms in their ginormous SUVs with the tons of kids roaming around without seat belts while they carry on conversations on their cell phones and yell at their kids.

18. I ran all my errands yesterday and today and I refuse to go back out on the road until Monday, when tax free weekend is over.

19. That’s how bad it is out there.

20. That is all.

  1. Ha! Tax free weekend in Missouri too. So I worked 9 hours today and will hole myself inside my bunker tomorrow.

As for someone getting into your space in line, I find that if you are constantly swinging your arms, they tend to stay the f*ck away. I am not talking about wild raging swings, just a little back and forth. Every once in a while, you will want to throw in a wild one, just to make sure they are paying attention.

  2. Ugh, I hate the space invaders, too. My daughter’s HS is starting before Labor Day. It just seems so weird! The middle school begins Sept. 6th. They both get the whole week of Thanksgiving off though, which is nice.

  3. I definitely need my space too, even from people I actually know personally. I just get a little claustrophobic if I can’t move around a lot. I can’t help it. I’m fidgety.

    It’s nothing personal :(
